Our Story & What We Believe

The Gourmet Dog Barkery began in November 2009, with a simple idea, a home kitchen, and a very important taste-tester — my first fur-child, Samson. Every treat was handmade with love and carefully tested (Samson approved!), and while we’ve grown a lot since then, our values have stayed exactly the same.

We believe in a holistic approach to your dog’s health, starting with what goes into their mouth. That’s why every treat we create is made with your dog’s wellbeing front of mind.

All of our staff hold a Diploma in Canine Nutrition, or are currently working towards one. We are trained dog treat specialists who take your dog’s health seriously — because to us, your dog is family.

We believe feeding your dog natural, wholesome, nutritious treats and food is one of the best ways to support a happy, healthy life.

What Makes Our Treats Different

Our oven-baked treats are handmade using high-quality Australian ingredients, are preservative-free, and organic where possible. This allows us to maintain the highest quality standards across every batch we bake.

Because we don’t use preservatives, our treats have an approximate shelf life of 6 months. There’s no “used by” date — freshness matters to us, so we use six months as our quality guide.

Some of our treats include natural ingredients like unsweetened yoghurt or carob, which may soften or melt in warmer conditions. Please keep this in mind when ordering, especially during warmer months.

We don’t just add flavouring — we use the real thing. Most flavours contain 20–30% of the featured ingredient. For example, our Peanut Butter biscuits are made with around 25% real Australian peanut butter.

Fat content ranges from approximately 5% to 15%, depending on the flavour. Our vegetarian options are typically the lowest in fat, and some of our Biscotti flavours are even fat-free.
